Environmental Service Club Volunteers at Latta Plantation

The Environmental Service Club, led by Caroline Campbell ’17 and Maren McCrary ’17, had nearly thirty Cannon Upper School students volunteer at Latta Plantation Nature Center recently.lattaWhile there, students completely revitalized the educational garden for the spring – they pulled weeds, planted wildflowers, laid mulch, and put new gravel down on pathways. Other students spent time repairing a pond by removing rocks from the water and using them to reline the pond bank. Club advisor Mr. Logan Arthur even joined in with students to remove over an acre of the invasive species known as elaeagnus, much to the delight of Latta staff. In the future, the Environmental Service Club will continue to do similar service projects to benefit the community and environment. –submitted by Caroline Campbell ’17
