There is a self-defense class for girls after school from 3:30-5:30 in the Campbell Gallery on Monday, March 23rd. This class is free, but there is a recommended donation of $5 (all proceeds go to the Charlotte Domestic Violence Center). In honor of the 50th anniversary of the historical march on Selma, Alabama, the documentary Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot will be shown this Thursday, March 12th in Foundation Hall, starting at 11:20 am.
Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot tells the story of a courageous group of students and teachers who, along with other activists, fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South. By organizing and marching bravely in the face of intimidation, violence, arrest, and even murder, these change-makers achieved one of the most significant victories of the civil rights era.
