House Impetus Students of the Month for September

James Gosling (’18) showed enthusiasm for service this summer by volunteering with TOPSoccer through Carolina Rapids every Saturday. TOPSoccer is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities organized by the US Youth Soccer Association’s member club volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability. Through volunteering with this program, James was able to combine his enthusiasm for soccer and volunteer work. Great job!

Kate Frankenberg (’18) showed enthusiasm for leadership over the summer and so far in the school year by joining Student Council. After STUCO spoke to the 8th grade last year about interning, Kate took initiative and submitted a resume and spoke with the deans about her interest. As a member of STUCO, she now helps the officers and representatives with anything they are working on. She has extended her enthusiasm for leadership outside of Cannon through her lacrosse team and swim team. From these experiences, she has definitely been able to learn more about teamwork, setting and achieving goals, accountability, confidence, and perseverance, all which attribute to a great leader. Great work James and Kate!

The first Cannon Reading Invasion is scheduled for Friday, September 5th during student choice (1:05 pm to 1:30 pm). We will

“invade” the quad.

The idea behind the Cannon Reading Invasion is simple- students, faculty, and staff bring something to read and “invade” a space on campus. Cannon Reading Invasion is not a book club but a time to come together during the school day to enjoy the act of reading and to remind our fellow Cougars that reading is an important part of our lives.

Cannon Reading Invasion is a way to celebrate our school’s passion for reading, to enjoy our school’s beautiful campus, and to share some quality time with members of our school community.
