Congratulations to Kamil Manzoor for winning the first annual Animus March Madness Bracket Tournament! His victory won Mr. Wise’s advisory a chicken mini breakfast on Thursday, April 10. Thanks for everyone who participated and helped raise over $50 for the Boy’s and Girl’s Club! Way to go Kamil!

Friday, April 11th is the official National Day of Silence in honor of those who are abused because of their beliefs. Hannah Finch and Andrew Newman have created the first Gay Straight Alliance at Cannon School. Please purchase a shirt for $10.00 and wear it with pride on Friday. Please be silent between classes. All proceeds will go the Trevor project to help the LGBT community.

April is Autism Awareness Month, established to raise awareness about the developmental disorder that affects children’s normal development of social and communication skills.

April is also Arab-American Heritage Month and Tartan (Scottish-American) Heritage Month

There are no age or experience requirements for prefect positions (Service, Academic, Social, Archival) or intern positions (2 underclassmen preferred), however we do ask that candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl are upper classmen (juniors and seniors) with some prior leadership experience. From April 7th to April 17th there will be a school supply drive benefitting Classroom Central. Classroom Central helps students who live in extreme poverty effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies. Students can donate either gently used or new school supplies. They can either place them in the white boxes found around school or give them to their advisors.

There will also be a bake sale benefitting Classroom Central. Preorders will be accepted on the 10th and the 11th in front of

Foundation Hall. For every dollar raised, Classroom Central will be able to buy 5 supplies. Thank you for your participation! 

 

 

2014 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival

There will be a meeting on Thursday, April 17th for students and faculty interested in attending the 2014 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival. The meeting will be held in the US library reference room at 11:45 am. 

The Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival is widely acknowledged as the largest poetry event in North America. The heart of the Dodge Poetry Festival, High School Student Day, brings together thousands of students from across the country who are equally interested in poetry and the arts. 

The 2014 Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival is scheduled for October 23-25, 2014 in Newark, New Jersey.

On May 3rd, there will be a 3v3 soccer tournament at Cannon! It is going to be for fun and everyone gets a

tshirt if they make a team so even if you have never played soccer before, it was still be a blast! All money goes towards the SpokesGroup in Charlotte. If interested, there are flyers on the Capstone board in the English wing or talk to Jake Flynn or Anna Estep.
