Recycling Resumes at Cannon

Cannon will launch their new and improved recycling program Friday, November 15 to coincide with America Recycles Day, a program of Keep America Beautiful that is “dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.”

Our new recycling vendor was selected in order to accommodate single-stream or mixed recycling. Single-stream recycling allows all recyclables to be placed in the same collection bin. Examples of acceptable items at this time include:

  •  paper (white and color)
  • phone books, newspapers, catalogs, and magazines
  • paperboard (cereal and food boxes)
  • cardboard (flattened)
  • milk and juice cartons
  • glass bottles and jars (no lids)
  • aluminum cans
  • plastic drink containers marked 1 or 2 (no bottle caps or lids)

Specific directions for recycling will be communicated to the students by faculty this week. Cannon staff, faculty, and students will kick off the new recycling efforts with a special dress-down day on Friday, November 15. Everyone is encouraged to wear appropriate jeans and any shirt that is either green or has a green message (recycling, earth day, etc.). We encourage all of the Cannon community to embrace this new recycling effort and show support Friday.
