This year’s Spring Orchestra Concert was a stunning success. Mrs. Anne Marie Samuel led her young players through some creative, challenging, and always lively arrangements.
The night started off with the fifth grade performing themes from Harry Potter, the Katy Perry hit Firework, and finishing off with the Beach Boys’ Fun, Fun, Fun. The sixth-grade strings showed their diverse capabilities when playing Mozart and then shifting to a boisterous rendition of The Best of Queen. They also played a beautiful arrangement of the dreamy OZ classic Over the Rainbow.
The seventh- and eighth-grade strings started with Bach’s sophisticated classic Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, followed by selections from Les Miserables, and finishing up with Coldplay’s Clocks. They all did a superb job of exerting the proper emotion and involvement each piece demanded. The audience was also treated to an outstanding violin solo by eighth grader Tim B.
The Upper School Strings continued with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, playing the second movement. The power and sentiment with which they played was palpable. This was followed by selections from The Hobbit and then onto selections from The Best of the Beatles. The audience enjoyed impeccable classical solos by seniors Olivia K. and Madi W., both on cello, and Daniel S. on bass.
At the end of the evening, fellow orchestra members paid tribute to the seniors with roses and words of gratitude. Olivia, Madi, and Daniel were told by fellow students and alumni about their influence on the orchestra. It was truly a moving celebration!
