First Grade Information Session
Thursday, December 6
Taylor Hall, Cannon School
First impressions matter, especially when it comes to establishing solid academic foundations for our children. A child who is confident in the classroom from a young age is more likely to be a curious and engaged learner in school and in life.
Parents of rising first graders are invited to learn from Head of Lower School Michelle Alexander how Cannon School’s teaching philosophy of “adaptive expertise,” curriculum, and supportive teachers provide essential building blocks that nurture young learners and address the specific developmental needs of first graders.
“This session is an opportunity for parents to learn how our first graders engage in active learning that encourages their emotional, social, physical, and academic development,” explains Alexander. “First grade is a year where students make considerable strides in all of these areas, and our teachers are highly trained to recognize and support differences in the needs and learning styles among our 6- and 7-year olds.”
Parents are encouraged to pre-register online.
