Congratulations to the girls’ golf team for repeating as the NCISAA girls golf champions for the second year in a row! Kate Collom and Anna Redding each shot an 82, Annie Collom followed with an 85, and Taylor Bunten shot a 94. Despite the course being the toughest of the year, the girls defeated the second-place team by 26 points. Kate Collom, Anna Redding, and Annie Collom earned All-State honors. The cross country team competed in the NCISAA State 3A Championships on Friday. Carrie Schauder led the way in the girls’ race with a strong 27th place out of 166 runners with a personal best time of 20:30 for the 3.1 mile course (despite losing a shoe with a half mile to go). The girls placed 19th out of twenty-four schools. Patrick Hunter made his way into the lead pack and finished 10th out of 164 runners with a personal best time of 16:28, earning All-State honors. The boys placed 8th overall out of 24 schools. Go Cougars!
The varsity football team defeated visiting Community School of Davidson 35-8 during Senior Night on Friday. Senior Myles Martino led all rushers with 22 carries for 121 yards and one touchdown. Senior Myles Grier completed seven of nine passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Senior John-Morgan Wilson led the defensive effort with fifteen tackles. All seven seniors: Blake Brewer, Matt Dacus, Myles Grier, Myles Martino, Michael Pope, Jake Stewart, and John-Morgan Wilson were on the field for the last offensive and defensive series and left their field shoulder-to-shoulder.
