Athletic Results from Friday, February 4

  • The boys JV basketball team lost to Providence Day School Friday night by a score of 70-65. Cannon fought back valiantly from a 22 point second half deficit to tie the game with less than 3 minutes remaining but were unable to pull out the victory.  Daniel Wyatt sparked the comeback, hitting four 3 pointers and finishing with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Lucas Anderson followed with 16 points, including a number of clutch free throws. Blake Brewer once again was a dominate force inside for the Cougars with 12 points and 8 rebounds. With the effort that this team is demonstrating on the court it won’t be long before these close games turn in their favor.


  • Conference play continued Friday night for the varsity girls’ basketball team as they hosted Providence Day.  The game started out with Brittany Mitchell hitting shots from all over the court as Providence Day jumped on Cannon to lead at the end of the quarter 19-5. By halftime Providence Day had built their lead to 36-14 but there was something brewing in the gym. The Lady Cougars had some small victories during the first half which would show up in the second half. With their backs against the wall the Lady Cougars came out and played spirited ball in the third quarter led by seniors Julie Harriss and Olivia Osborne.  This senior leadership was contagious as the team realized that they could play with the powerful Providence Day squad. The Lady Cougars were not able to win the game, losing 68-36, but the small victories were a step in the right direction. It showed character. The Lady Cougars were led by Chantal Neuwald with 14, Olivia Osborne 6, Haley Foreman, Emma Virtanen and Julie Harriss 4 pts each Mackenzie Moyer and Leah Baker 2 pts each. 


  • The varsity swim team competed in a meet with Greensboro Day School on Friday and placed second.  No final results have been provided yet.  Congratulations to the 200 Free Relay Team of Cameron Cook, Matt Randolph, Will Keenan, and Matt Dockery for breaking the Cannon School Record!!
