  • The 8th grade girls basketball team lost to Charlotte Country Day with a score of 31-19.  The game was much closer than the score.  The first half showed us that we have game.  The second half taught us you have to play all four quarters to win.  The effort is there and our plan is to protect the ball on offense and rebound on both ends and when we do this we will bring home a win.  Our next game is Tuesday at Lake Norman and we would like for this to be the next win.  Some of our stand outs were Madeleine Farrington pulling down the team high 3 rebounds, Anna Redding ran the show offensively and Kendall Thomas showed us what defense is all about.

  • The 8th grade boys’ basketball team played their best game of the season Thursday night against a very physical Country Day team.  After gaining a five point lead after the first quarter, the Cougars fell behind by four at halftime.  The guys played with passion and extreme focus but could not regain the lead and eventually lost by six, 32-26Danny Brenner led the team with 8 points.  Robert Sevin had his best game with 6 points.  Jacob Johnson and Mitchell Carlson each scored 4 points.  Jordan Wagner chipped in 2 points.

  • The 7th grade boys’ basketball team traveled to Charlotte Country Day for our first game after the break.  The Bucs had a great first half hitting 4 three pointers in the second quarter to take a 28-15 halftime lead.  The Cougars didn’t give up, changing the defense and putting more pressure on the Bucs guards the Cougars were able to create several turnovers in the third quarter and clawed their way back limiting the Bucs to one point in the third quarter.  Starting the fourth quarter the score was CCD 29 Cannon 24.  The fourth quarter was just as exciting as the third with Cannon keeping the pressure on the Bucs.  But it was the Bucs night, late in the fourth a Bucs player scored a huge three pointer that put the Cougars down by 5 with a minute to go in the game.  The Bucs went away with a 38 to 35 victory.  The guys played a great game, Ben Wyatt led all scorers with 11 points, Cole Lippincott and Dominic Pelucio had 8 pts respectively, Ryan Chandler added 4 points and Andre Dahan and Adam Clinard both had 3 pts.  Jake Jenike, Zach McMahan, Justin Fromke, Clayton Merrill, and Mark Calcagno played extremely well.  The Cougars next game will be against Providence Day School on the 18th.

  • The boys JV basketball team traveled to Westchester Country Day Thursday and fell to their most talented opponent of the season by a score of 63-38. Four of the starters for WCDS also play for their highly rated varsity team, but the Cougars battled as hard as they had all year from start to finish. JM Wilson led the team in scoring with 9 points, followed by Myles Grier with 7 points. Grant Gossage played his most aggressive game this year and had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Eric Fromke had 6 points and 6 rebounds. The Cougars will look to get back on the winning track next Thursday when they travel to Countryside Montessori School to take on the Mustangs at 7pm.
