Athletic Results from Wednesday, December 15


  • For the third time this week, the 7th grade girls’ basketball team hit the court once again. The Cougars played Holy Trinity for the second and final time for the season. The Cougars were without their leading scorer and rebounder, Christina Stylianou, facing the team with the best record within our conference. The Cougars didn’t fair well the first time against Holy Trinity, as we lost 42-10. Despite having a key player out, the Cougars were determined to play a hard fought game. The Cougars struggled offensively in the first half, despite getting many good shot attempts. The Cougars trailed 14-0 at the half.  The Cougars made some adjustments on offense and put up 6 points in the 3rd quarter. The Cougars finally found their touch in the final quarter and outscored Holy Trinity 9-6 in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was 28-15. Carolyn Mitlehner scored a season high 8 points and grabbed many rebounds. Maya Sturgies added 4, and Jean Metwalli drained a 3 pointer. Rachel Harris had her best game of the season with 3 assists and tenacious defense throughout.
  • The 7th grade boys’ basketball team welcomed Holy Trinity to our gym on Wednesday and early on Holy Trinity showed why they are the only undefeated team in conference, by jumping out to a quick 18-8 start.  The Cougars struggle all night to get any offense going and Holy Trinity was able to turn our miscues into points.  The Cougars fought hard and never gave up but the solid defense and attacking offense was too much for the Cougars to tame.  Holy Trinity went on to win by a score of 54-28.  Dominic Pelucio led the Cougars with 16 points, Adam Clinard and Ben Wyatt added 3 points each, William Chaiken, Clayton Merrill, and Cole Lippincott had 2 points each. The Cougars go into the break with a 3-4 record with 4 games remaining in the season. 
  • The 8th grade girls’ basketball team lost to Holy Trinity by a score of 32 to 4.  The team struggled to break the press of Holy Trinity in the first half but came back much improved after the half.  Taylor Marks came alive and ripped down 9 rebounds and scored 2 points. Anna Redding had 5 rebounds 3 steals and 2 points and 1 assist which proved to be a well rounded game.  Caitlin Brewer had 4 rebounds. Scottie Dickens played her best defensive game yet. Although our turnovers cost us our girl’s willingness to play hard to the very last second shows lots of character.
  • The 8th grade boys’ basketball team lost a hard fought, heated game against Holy Trinity Wednesday evening with a score of 38-31. Danny Brenner scored 11 points in the loss.
