The 7th grade girls’ basketball team lost a hard fought battle against Charlotte Country Day at home on Monday. The first quarter was a defensive battle as Country Day led the Cougars 4-1 at the end of the quarter. The Cougars had a few defensive mishaps and were not yet settled offensively, as they trailed 10-3 at the half. The Cougars dramatically improved offensively in the 3rd quarter and scored 9 points (the largest point output for a quarter this season). The Cougars trailed 17-12 going into the fourth quarter. However, Country Day countered in the fourth quarter with a “Box and 1” on Maya Sturgies and the Cougars were simply not prepared for such a defensive strategy. Towards the end of the game, the Cougars began gambling in man to man defense and gave up 8 easy points. The final score was 29-14.
The 7th grade boys’ basketball teamwelcomed Charlotte Country Day to their gym on Monday afternoon where both teams started out playing excellent defense and at the end of the first quarter the Cougars led 7-4. For much of the game it seemed to be a lid on the bucket because the Cougars shots were not falling in. However the Cougars led at halftime 17-12. The second half the Cougars tightened up their defense once again and finished the with a 32-22 victory. Ben Wyatt led the team with 16 points 11 rebounds, Cole Lippincott had 4 points 10 rebounds, and Andre Dahan had 5 points 5 assist. Dominic Pelucio, Ryan Chandler, Adam Clinard, Grant Wagner, Justin Fromke and Jake Jenike played excellent defense leading to many Country Day turnovers. The Cougars play at home again tonight at 5:30 pm.
