Athletic Results from Wednesday, December 1


  • The 7th grade girls’ basketball team played their first home game of the season Wednesday against Providence Day School.  Providence Day jumped out to a 10-2 lead early in the second quarter due to full court pressure and Providence Day led 19-2 at the half.  The Cougars made a good run in the second half and actually tied Providence Day in the second half in scoring 14-14. In the end, the full court press of Providence Day proved too difficult to negotiate at this time and the Cougars fell 33-16. The 7th grade girls are improving in leaps and bounds. Christina Stylianou led the Cougars with 10 points. Erin Mason added 4 points and Jena Metwalli contributed 2 points.

 

  • The 7th grade boys’  basketball team had the first home game and it was a nail biter, coming down to the last second.  It was an evenly matched game throughout the first half with the Cougars taking the lead into halftime with a 10-9 score.  In the second half it remained a close game with the Cougars going ahead by 7 and PDS fighting back in the 4th to tie the game.  The game went down to the wire as Ryan Chandler stepped to the free throw line and hit a key free throw to tie the game up.  With less than 10 seconds to go in the game, PDS was able to put up 2 shots at the basket and on the last attempt as time expired the referee call a foul on the Cougars as PDS was taking a shot.  The PDS player stepped to the free throw line missing the first shot but making the second shot.  PDS wins the game 32 to 31.  It was a great game by the Cougars with Cole Lippincott leading the team with 8 points and 10 rebounds, Ben Wyatt added 5 points and 10 rebounds, Ryan Chandler and Dominick Pelucio added  5 points respectively, and Clayton Merrill had 5 points and 3 rebounds.  The Cougars next contest is an away game with Charlotte Christian on December the 9th.  

 

  • The 8th grade girls’ basketball team had an awesome win over Providence Day with a score of 24-10.  It was a well rounded effort by the entire team.  Kendall Thomas, Caitlin Brewer and Anna Redding all contributed 8 points each to the total.  Kendall also had 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Caitlin had 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Anna had 2 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.   Taylor Marks pulled down 12 rebounds and 1 tip back save from out of bounds.

 

  • The 8th grade boys’ basketball team lost to Providence Day on Wednesday 29-23.  The team played exceptionally well in the first half taking a 6 point lead into the locker room.  Pressure defense by PDS caused lots of turnovers in the second half by Cougars.  David Ratte led the team with 10 points and played fantastic defense.
